# The Corporate Artist — the glossary, with pages

*Every term in the book, defined once, cited once. First printed edition page numbers.*

- **Corporate Artist** — Someone paid to create from within a corporate environment: through choices, problems solved, experiences shaped, relationships built, information interpreted, and what happens next. Movement One, p. 13.
- **Known Character** — The trained self that runs on Scarcity, Control and Separation because the corporation rewards those patterns. Not a mask over a true self; a costume that can only see a few things. Ch. 6, p. 41.
- **The Protective Characters** — The Expert (avoids the shame of not knowing), The Peacemaker (avoids disapproval), The Always-Busy Hero (avoids feeling nonessential), The Skeptic (avoids being fooled). You are a portfolio of them. Ch. 6.
- **Creative Character / Corporate Artist Self** — The self chosen on purpose for this moment: which part of me serves creation now? Ch. 6.
- **The Tightener** — A voice, yours or the room's, that sounds like quality control and acts as a kill switch. Arrives near breakthrough, never at the safe start. Ch. 9, p. 59.
- **Contraction** — Creativity's testing phase, not a verdict. Distinct from depletion, which needs rest. Ch. 14, p. 91.
- **The Pause** — The space between trigger and response. Neither push nor fold. Ch. 31, p. 191.
- **Recognition** — Noticing the character before choosing. Movement One, p. 13.
- **Micromovement** — The smallest imperfect action within five minutes, handed off before ready. Ch. 27, p. 163.
- **Creative medium** — Your title is not your medium. Your medium is what you keep shaping. Ch. 19, p. 121.
- **Co-creation** — Almost nothing important is created alone. Ch. 3, p. 27.
- **Working beautifully** — The practice, not the peak. Ch. 26, p. 159.
- **Field Insight / Field Memory / Standard Practice / Reflective Questions / The Inquiry** — The five parts of every chapter: the idea, a true story from working life, a practice to try, questions, and one thing to sit with.
