### Trident Booksellers & Café

Opened in 1984 by the Flynn family in the Newbury Stable Company building of 1886, a bookshop and café that added a second room, The Stacks, in 2024. The founder, Bernie Flynn, left the shop a motto it keeps: sense where there is energy, and move in that direction.

- The Detour: this issue's editorial detour
- Founded: 1984

A bookshop with a café gives indecision somewhere to sit. Trident has brought books and meals together on Newbury Street since 1984. Our detour makes room for both: read a little, eat something, come back to the page.

## About this guide

Places to Wander is an editorial field guide from The Corporate Artist to independent bookstores and bookshops worth finding in person.

We look for independent shops with a point of view: exceptional selection, a meaningful specialty, a room worth experiencing, a role in its neighborhood, or the possibility of finding something you did not arrive looking for. The guides are edited, not numerically ranked. A bookstore does not have to stock The Corporate Artist to be included.

A field guide from Morgan Sage Norman, author of The Corporate Artist, a book about creativity at work.
